Engineering Success: Supporting the Next Generation Through Mentorship and Community
As engineering students who are reaching the end of our educational journey, we are aware of how significant the proper support system is towards deciding to enter a career path like ours. From when you begin as a first-year student, to when you become an industry professional in the technical field, there are many challenges and insecurities students face which require proper guidance to navigate. We owe our success not just to our hard work, but to the role models, educators, and tutors that assisted us along the way.
To pay this forward and give young black students role models to look up to, we the North Dakota State University’s National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) reached out to Baraza La Afrika to assist in tutoring and motivating bright young minds to pursue academic excellence. One of our board members, Gedeon Kasongo, was assisting the organization with tutoring even before becoming a member of NSBE.
This allowed us to establish a good relationship which we hope will only continue to flourish as we collaborate to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged students.
The Current Homework help and tutoring program we have is being held at the Baraza La Afrika office in Fargo. It will run on Thursdays for 1-2 hours depending on how much help the students need.
